Media tools edit board assets without leaving FlashBoards. Select an item and open its three-dot **More actions** menu, or select several items for the multi-selection menu. Results are added as new items next to the source and the original is kept, except Crop with **Replace** and Flip, which update the selected item.

Tools only appear for media they apply to. Most need the file stored on your board, so for web-linked or shared-board media use **Download to Board** first (see [Import media](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/media/import-media.md)). **Compose collage** and **Merge videos** also accept web-linked items.

## Runs in your browser vs FlashBoards compute

Most tools run in your browser. A few run on FlashBoards servers ("compute"):

* **Auto Split**, **Compose collage** and **Safe** always use compute.
* **Merge videos** and **Split to (5s)** try your browser first and fall back to compute.
* **Manual collage** runs in your browser and works for any signed-in account.

> **Note: Which compute tools need a subscription.** **Auto Split**, **Compose collage** and **Safe** need an active subscription. Without one you see "Server media tools need an active subscription." Other compute tools, such as **Resize**, **Trim**, **Split**, **Merge videos** and the audio tools, work for any signed-in account. See [Plans and balance](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/account/plans-and-balance.md).

The [Assistant](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/generation/assistant.md) in Agent mode and [connected AI agents](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/integrations/mcp.md#media-tools) can run these tools too. A few audio tools are only available to agents: **Join audio** joins 2 to 12 audio items end to end into one WAV or MP3, **Mix audio tracks** mixes 2 to 12 tracks into one track of up to 3 minutes, and agents can also replace a video's soundtrack. These run on compute, and the result is added next to the sources. Describe and Transcript are paid AI actions; see [Describe and transcribe](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/media/describe-and-transcribe.md). To change only part of an image with AI, use [Guided edit](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/media/guided-edit.md).

## Limits

* Files sent to compute can be up to 100 MB. Bigger videos open **Compress video** first; bigger audio is rejected. Pick a **Quality** (Low, Medium or High). Browsers without the newer video tools show **Target size** instead: **60 MB**, **80 MB**, **95 MB** or your own size from 10 to 99 MB. Click **Compress & Continue** to compress and carry on with the tool.
* **Merge videos**: up to 12 videos per run.
* **Merge videos** and **Compose collage** on compute: 400 MB combined.
* **Split to (5s)** and **Auto Split** on compute: clips up to 60 seconds (up to 180 seconds for some **Auto Split** runs).
* **Safe**: images up to 15 MB, videos up to 100 MB.

## Video and audio tools

| Tool | What it does |
| ----------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Split to (5s)** | Splits video or audio into 5-second parts. The **Custom** clock icon lets you set **Duration (seconds)**. |
| **Manual Split** | Scrub, cut and export clips by hand. |
| **Auto Split** | Adds one part per detected scene. |
| **Compress** | Makes a smaller copy at **Quality** Low, Medium or High (or a **Target size**). |
| **Extend** | Pads with black to a preset size. Works on images and video. |
| **Crop** | Crops to a preset or, for images, a **Custom** box. |
| **Convert** | Video to **MP4 • 15 FPS**, **24 FPS** or **30 FPS**. Audio to **MP3** or **WAV**. |
| **Extract frame** | Saves the frame at the playhead as a PNG. |
| **Export audio** / **Remove audio** | Adds the soundtrack as an audio item, or a silent copy of the video. |
| **Room reverb** | Audio only, in **More actions**: adds a copy with room reverb, made on compute. Not on shared boards. |

Presets for **Extend** and **Crop** are **1:1 • 1080 x 1080**, **HD • 1280 x 720**, **HD • 720 x 1280**, **Full HD • 1920 x 1080** and **Full HD • 1080 x 1920**.

**Remove audio** removes the whole soundtrack. To keep music and drop only dialogue, use an audio model that splits a track into stems (see [Models and workflows](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/generation/models-and-workflows.md#audio-models)), or an external editor.

### Split a video by hand

### Step 1: Open Manual Split

Select the video, open **More actions** and choose **Manual Split**.

### Step 2: Add cuts

Scrub with **Previous Frame**, **Play** and **Next Frame**, then click **Split At Playhead (S)**. Drag clip boundaries to adjust; Alt-click one to remove it.

### Step 3: Export

Click clips to select them, then **Remove N** or **Merge N** if needed. Click **Export Selected** or **Export Parts** to add the clips to the board.

Keys: `S` splits, `Space` plays or pauses, arrow keys step a frame (with `Shift`, 1 second), and `Delete` removes the selected clips or the last cut.

[Video: In Manual Split, click the time ruler and press S to cut, then select a clip](https://media.yaroflasher.com/docs/media/media-tools-manual-split.h264.203e39ef.mp4)

## Image tools

| Tool | What it does |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Split** | Cuts a grid image into panels. Drag the centre handle or click **2 x 2**, **3 x 3**, **4 x 4**, **2 x 3** or **3 x 2**, then **Split**. |
| **Crop** > **Custom** | On-canvas box with **Free**, **1:1**, **4:3**, **3:4**, **16:9**, **9:16**, **3:2** and **2:3**. **Replace** swaps the image, **As New** adds an item. |
| **Flip** | Choose **Horizontal** or **Vertical** to flip the selected image. |
| **Convert** | **JPG** or **PNG**. |
| **Copy to clipboard** | Copies the image (not GIF). |

Split, Crop and Flip don't work on GIFs.

## Multi-selection tools

Select several items and open **More actions**.

* **Merge videos** joins 2 to 12 videos in layer order, back to front. The result uses the first clip's frame rate.
* **Compose collage** makes an automatic collage of 2 or more images.
* **Manual collage** opens **Manual Collage**. Drag images into cells, set **Aspect Ratio**, **Output Size**, **Columns**, **Rows** and **Gap**, then **Export** to add a PNG.
* **Grid** arranges images into a grid.
* **Export selection as PNG** renders the selection or the whole board as one PNG.
* **Download selected** saves the selected media as a ZIP.
* **Copy links** copies shareable links for the selected items.

*Drag images from the list into the grid cells, then click Export*

## Safe transforms

The **Safe** menu makes a protected copy: **Face mosaic • Fine**, **Standard** or **Strong** for images and videos, or **Hybrid deformation** for images. It doesn't guarantee full anonymization, and animated images aren't supported.

## See running jobs

While a tool runs, a status bar appears at the bottom of the board. When compute jobs are active, click **Queue N** to open **FFmpeg queue**, where each job has a **Cancel** button.

## Fix media tool problems

Open **User settings**, then **FFmpeg & Media**. In **FFmpeg Diagnostics**, click the refresh icon (**Refresh diagnostics**) next to **Copy**, then click **Copy** to send the results to support. See [Troubleshooting](https://flashboards.yaroflasher.com/docs/reference/troubleshooting.md).

### Details: which items get which tools

* **Export audio** and **Extract frame** are available for videos stored locally on an editable board. They are hidden for web-linked and shared-board videos; download a linked video to the board first where that action is available.
* Shared boards are read-only. To change their items with media tools, make a local copy first.
* **Manual Split**, **Export audio** and **Remove audio** need a recent browser; if they're missing, update or switch browsers.
* The compute fallback for **Split to (5s)** may move cuts to nearby silence.
* If your subscription payment failed, paid compute tools show "Your subscription has a payment issue, so spending is paused, including top-up credits." Update your payment details in **Settings → Account**.
