Canvas basics

Zoom and pan the board, select items, copy and paste, group, undo, and start from an empty board.

The canvas is an endless surface. Items stay where you put them.

Move around

Zoom, pan, recenter, pick a zoom preset, then reset with ⌃0
ActionHow
Zoom in or outMouse wheel, trackpad pinch, or ⌘+ and ⌘-
PanDrag empty canvas, or two-finger scroll on a trackpad
Pan on a touch screenDrag with one finger; pinch with two to zoom
Reset zoom to 100%Control0 (⌘0 also works on Mac), or Zoom presets → Reset zoom to 100%
Jump to a presetZoom presets (the percentage, top right)
Center the view on your contentCenter on content (top right). It keeps the zoom, so zoom out first if your content doesn't fit.

On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl where Mac uses ⌘.

Note

Use the board's zoom, not your browser's, which scales the whole interface. Keyboard zoom also works in the prompt box: it moves focus out of the prompt and zooms the board. In other text fields, click the canvas first.

Use the minimap

Click Show minimap (top right) for a small overview of the board. Click or drag in it to move around. Hide minimap closes it.

Select items

  • Click an item to select it. It moves to the front.
  • Shift-click to add or remove an item.
  • Shift-drag on empty canvas to draw a selection box. A plain drag pans.
  • Press Esc or click empty canvas to clear the selection.

One selected media item shows an action rail; see Item actions. Several selected items show a toolbar with alignment and layout tools; see Arrange and align.

Group items

Select two or more items and press ⌘G, or right-click a selected media item and choose Create Group.

  • Drag the group's label to move the group. Click the label to select every member.
  • Drag a single member to move only that item.
  • Edit group style (the palette button) changes the name and color.
  • Press ⌘ShiftG or click Ungroup items to ungroup. The items stay on the board.

An item can belong to only one group.

Shift-drag a selection box, press ⌘ G to group, then drag the group by its label

Duplicate, copy and paste

ActionShortcut
Duplicate selection⌘D
Copy selected items⌘C
Paste⌘V
Delete selectionDelete or Backspace

Pasted items land at your pointer, even on a different board. Duplicated items can overlap other items; dropped and imported files are placed in free space instead. See Where new items land. To move items to another board, right-click a media item and choose Move to Board or Copy to Board.

Paste from outside FlashBoards

Click the canvas and press ⌘V to add a copied image, SVG or web link. A link that doesn't look like media is still added, with a warning to check it.

Plain text doesn't become a note ("No images found in clipboard"). Use Add text note instead; see Notes and drawing.

Undo and redo

Click Undo and Redo (top left), or press ⌘Z and ⌘ShiftZ. Each local board keeps up to 10 undo steps. Shared boards have no undo. Deleting doesn't ask for confirmation, so undo right away if you delete by mistake.

WarningUndo and finished generations

A generation that finishes normally does not add an Undo step. Its result is kept when you undo or redo an earlier edit. Deleting the result is still an ordinary edit; undo that deletion or use Restore to board on its progress chip to bring it back.

Start from an empty board

A new board shows a Get Started card with Paste from clipboard, Drag & drop media and Generate with AI. It disappears once the board has an item. A first-time hint may offer Open Import/Export Guide; click Dismiss to hide it.

Pick a model without leaving the canvas

Right-click empty canvas to open a quick model picker. Hover Favorites or Recent and click a model to make it active. Press Esc to close it.

Preview and compare

Double-click a media item, or select it and press Enter, to open it full screen. With two images or two videos selected, Enter opens a side-by-side wipe comparison. With more items, you step through them. See Preview and compare.
