Notes and drawing

Add and style text notes and sketch freehand on a board to label shots and mark up references.

Use text notes and sketches to label scenes, block out shots and mark up references. They're for organizing: nothing is sent to a model unless you copy it into a prompt or use a note as text input (such as narration for text-to-speech).

Both tools are in the left-side board actions: Add text note and Draw on board. For arrows and shapes, see Arrows and shapes.

NoteRead-only boards

On a shared read-only board, Add text note and entering Draw on board are disabled. If drawing mode is already active, Exit drawing mode remains available. Open one of your own editable boards to add notes or drawings. See Shared boards.

Add a text note

Click Add text note

Click Add text note in the left-side board actions. A note with the text New Note appears in free space near the middle of your view. If an item is selected, it goes in the nearest free space beside that item and its neighbours, so it can land a little away from it. It never covers other items. The text is already selected, so just start typing to replace it.

Write the body and optional title

Type in the body (Enter your note...). To add a Title, double-click the note to edit it, then click + Add title at its top-left. It only shows while you edit a tall enough note, so make the note taller first if you don't see it. Remove next to the title drops it.

Save

Click outside the note or press ⌘Enter. Press Esc to discard your edits. Double-click a note to edit it again.

Click Add text note, type over New Note, then press ⌘ Enter to save

A selected note has a small rail with Copy note content, Duplicate note and Delete note.

Style a note

Select a note to open the Note properties panel on the right. It stays open while you type in the note:

  • Typography: font family and font size (4 to 512 px, or pick a preset size).
  • Alignment: left, center or right, and top or middle.
  • Appearance: text, background and border colors, each with a Reset button. Background and border colors can be semi-transparent.
  • Presets: see below.

For a one-click style, choose a preset: Classic, Minimal or Green. Click Save current style (+) to add your own. Double-click a preset to rename it, or hover and click the x to delete it. Custom presets stay in this browser only.

Draw on the board

Enter drawing mode

Click Draw on board (the pencil button) or press D. The button changes to Exit drawing mode.

Pick your brush

Choose a color, a stroke size (S, M or L) and an Opacity.

Draw and finish

Drag on the canvas to draw. Click Done, or press Enter or D, to keep your strokes as one drawing.

Before your first stroke, the board shows the hint Draw here · Enter to finish · Esc to discard.

WarningSome keys throw away a new drawing

With the board focused, Esc, Delete, Backspace, X and ⌘Z discard the whole draft, and you can’t undo it. Enter, D or Done keeps a new drawing. While you type in a text field, these shortcuts leave the drawing draft intact. Click Done to finish it.

To add strokes to a finished drawing, double-click it, draw, then press Esc to finish. Here Esc keeps your new strokes: each one is saved as you draw it. To erase a drawing, select it and click Clear drawing. This leaves an empty drawing ready for new strokes.

Draw on board: pick a color, circle the details, then click Done

Move notes and drawings to another board

Notes and drawings have no right-click menu. To move or copy one, select it together with a media item. Right-click the media item and choose Move to Board or Copy to Board. See Item actions.

For agents

A connected agent can add notes and change an existing note's text, title and style with execute_board_action (addTextNote, updateTextNote). See Edit a board.
